Eyelash Extension Aftercare
Eyelash extensions are not for everyone. This beauty treatment requires maintenance. Very gentle care is required in order for the lashes to last and stay in good condition. Once the lashes are attached, you must wait a minimum of 24 hours before you get them wet (including steam) and you must not rub or pull them. You should not wear any mascara, cream eyeshadows, oil based eyeliner, or use eyelash curlers. Cleanse daily in a vertical, not horizontal manner, and brush with your spoolie on top of lashes from base to tip. Please read all the information listed below before you receive this service.
What are Eyelash Extensions?
Silk Eyelash Extensions are made of nylon materials with a satin finish. Lash extensions are attached to a single eyelash, never on the skin. It is a very enhancing beauty service and you do not need to use any mascara while wearing eyelash extensions. It is a very careful and repetitive process which requires skill and precision. Once applied these lashes are so natural looking it is difficult to tell even up close that you have extensions. Density, curl and length availability range depending on preference of design.
How long do lash extensions last?
It varies from individual to individual, and depends on how well you take care of them, among other factors. We lose one to three eyelashes per day. We also grow new lashes to replace lost ones. Factors such as eyelash hair growth cycles, lifestyle and general after care will affect how long the lashes last. Most client's receive fills every 2-3 weeks. Please do not attempt to remove any lashes on your own, seek professional help from your technician. ACE Academy will not be held liable for any damage that you may cause by trying to remove the eyelash extensions on your own. Removal of lashes provided by ACE Academy can be provided as a service.
Do the lash extensions damage my natural eyelashes?
No, not at all! The Lash adhesive is medical grade & formulated to create a solid bond, specifically designed for human lashes. The adhesive dries very soft on the lashes, allowing the lashes to stay flexible and bouncy just like your own lashes. Eyelashes are on a natural shedding cycle & like all hair, as they shed new ones are growing and they are constantly in 1 of 3 hair growth cycles.
What should you do before your eyelash extension appointments?
Remove all eye makeup and clean your lashes with a mild, oil free cleanser, and baby shampoo works great! Never use oil based makeup removers to clean your lashes, to prevent the breaking down of the glue. Do not put on any mascara. We don’t want to spend time cleaning your lashes. We’d rather spend time working on perfecting your lashes. If you are a contact lens wearer, please remove contact lenses and wear glasses to your appointment, or bring a lens case and remove them when you arrive at your appointment. Plan to set aside 1 to 3.5 hours for your appointment, depending on the service
Important Info
-
Do Not get your lashes wet for 24 hours after application to allow glue to cure.
-
Do Not use an eyelash curler.
-
Do Not pick or pull at your lashes, use a safety pin or spoolie to separate, carefully, or check to see if a lash is twisted and untwist in the correct direction.
-
Do Not allow chemical exfoliants (AHA's) to make contact with eyelash extensions, when rinsing off your face.
-
Do Not use mascara, cream eyeshadow or oil based eyeliner, powder is okay. If you must wear mascara, it should be just on the tips to avoid the glue from breaking down, and it must not be waterproof.
-
Do Not rub your eyes or lashes when washing your face.
-
Do Not pull your lash extensions, as it will take out your own lash as well
-
Do Not go to the sauna, steam room or hot springs frequently. The heat may cause the bonds to weaken.
-
Do Not try to remove the extensions on your own.
-
Do Not let moisture-rich products get onto your lashes. Shampoo, conditioner, heavy creams or anything oil based will eventually loosen the bond. Tilt your head back when washing your hair to avoid getting them wet. Some clients use swimming goggles while showering.
-
Try not to sleep on your face.
-
Be cautious when applying moisturizer around your eyes
-
Clean daily with water, running down the length of the lashes and never horizontally, and brush with your spoolie.
-
Reshape your extensions after you shower. Gently comb your lashes to fan them out or use a blow dryer set on "cool" to fan them back in place. Hold it arms length away from your face. Brush out lashes on the top from the base to tips using spoolie wand.
-
Clean your eye makeup without touching the extensions, and use an oil-free eye makeup remover
-
Consider investing in a lash growth serum to help strengthen your lashes and reduce your natural hair shedding cycle
-
As your natural lashes fall out due to the growth cycle, you will need fills. Depending on your own natural eyelash growth cycle, and how well you follow these aftercare instructions, you will probably need a lash fill every 2-3 weeks.
